Designer and Philanthropist, Bonnie Young, calls for a Resurgence of New York

From the lofty heights of couture design to the streets of New York City, Bonnie Young has made her mark. Her aesthetic is rooted in a modern point of view – for women who look for versatility and individuality in their wardrobe choices.

Young’s flair for design is derived from her global travel, and the cultural appreciation associated with that. She creates pieces that women across the world can embrace. Both her ready-to-wear and couture pieces are imbued with elegance and modernity.

While Young creates exquisite pieces for her global client base she also engages with the community she lives in.  Her philanthropic interests are both long lived and relevant to the changing needs of society.

Young founded Fashion Fights for Children’s Rights, an initiative to support the broad medical needs of children. In 2013 she was honored for her work on behalf of Solving Kids Cancer. Most recently her attention has turned to her own community, NYC, where Covid-19 has ripped through the lives of so many. She is using her work to help those most in need.

Young’s FW21 collection is about the resurgence of NYC and its upcoming renaissance post pandemic. A portion of the profits from the collection will be used to supply blankets to the homeless communities, starting with New York, where the blankets will be distributed by Win NYC, the largest provider of shelter and supportive housing for homeless families, especially women and children.

“I was inspired by NYC in the 90s when the city was filled with young artists, musicians, creatives, and empty warehouses downtown. With Fall 2021 we are imagining a post Covid New York City. It is gritty, yet sleek and vibrant. It is a return to the old New York, a New York that thrived on community, edge, creativity, and innovation.”

Bonnie Young’s memories of the ‘90s scene of young artists, musicians, and creatives in empty downtown warehouses make her yearn for that unique period of creativity, edge, and innovation. Such vibrant energy comes from people connected to their communities. Through her line coined ‘Project Plaid’ Bonnie calls for a resurgence of New York.
